One of the most common reasons for someone to move to Cambridge is for their children to receive world class education. In Cambridgeshire, 33 primary schools are within three miles of Cambridge city centre. This can make choosing a primary school extremely difficult.

To help you find a good school for your primary-aged child, here’s a guide to the best primary schools in Cambridgeshire:

How the Ofsted Rating System in Cambridge Works

In Cambridge, there are four Ofsted ratings primary schools and secondary schools can receive:

  • Outstanding – This is the highest rating a school can receive. For schools in Cambridgeshire to receive this rating, they must receive a Grade 1 in most inspection categories. Schools that receive an outstanding rating are believed to offer children the best education and care. They help all children within the school achieve their full potential.
  • Good – a good school will receive Grade 2 for most categories, but they can also receive the odd Grade 1 or Grade 3. Good schools are believed to offer a good education for the children in their care and prepare them well for the future.
  • Requires Improvement – These schools still provide a reasonable education to children but will have areas where they need to improve.
  • Inadequate – schools rated inadequate fail to meet the children’s educational or personal needs. These schools must make changes quickly, or they will lose any government funding they receive.

These grades are based on the inspector’s opinions across four Ofsted categories: behaviour and attitudes, quality of education, pupils’ personal development and management and leadership.
